Why does a business name's number matter?
In numerology, every name carries a vibrational frequency determined by the Pythagorean values of its letters. For businesses, this frequency shapes the unconscious perception the name creates — whether customers instinctively associate it with trust, excitement, authority, or creativity.
The most powerful use of business name numerology is not to predict success but to filter candidates: when choosing between two finalist names, the one whose number aligns with your intended brand positioning and target customer has an edge.
This calculator uses the Pythagorean system, the most widely used method in Western numerology, which assigns values 1–9 to the alphabet in sequence.
Frequently asked questions
Does business name numerology actually work?+
Business name numerology is a framework for understanding the archetypal energy a name projects — not a predictive science. Many successful companies have names that align with their brand positioning by design or coincidence. It is most useful as a creative filter when choosing between candidate names, not as a guarantee of success.
Should I rename my business based on numerology?+
Only if you are at an early stage where the name has not yet built brand equity. Renaming an established brand destroys recognition and customer associations far more than any numerological misalignment. Use numerology when choosing a name, not to justify changing one.
Do I use the legal name or the trading name?+
Use whichever name customers and the market actually know you by — the trading name, brand name or domain name. The legal registered name (e.g. "Ltd" or "Inc" suffixes) is generally excluded from the calculation.
What is the best number for a business name?+
There is no universally best number. Number 8 attracts commercial success; Number 1 builds strong brands; Number 3 drives viral growth; Number 4 is ideal for trust-heavy industries; Number 9 suits mission-driven companies. The best number is the one that aligns with your business model and target customer.
How do letters in a business name get converted to numbers?+
Each letter is assigned a number using the Pythagorean system (A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E=5, F=6, G=7, H=8, I=9, J=1, K=2… repeating 1-9). All values are summed, then reduced to a single digit by repeated addition — unless the sum is a master number (11, 22, or 33).
