Planes of Expression

The Planes of Expression take a different cut through the same name. Rather than reducing letters to digits and summing them, this method sorts every letter into one of four planes according to the shape and sound of the letter itself: the physical (E, D, M, W), the mental (A, H, J, N, P), the emotional (B, I, O, R, S, T, X, Z) and the intuitive (C, F, G, K, L, Q, U, V, Y). The result is a profile of how you meet the world before you have decided anything about it.

A name weighted toward the physical plane describes someone who thinks with their hands and trusts what can be touched, tested or built. A mental weighting describes the analyst, who converts experience into argument. An emotional weighting describes someone for whom every fact arrives already carrying a feeling. An intuitive weighting describes the person who simply knows, often correctly, and cannot always say how.

Each plane is then further classified as creative, vacillating or grounded, depending on the numbers involved — which is where the reading gets genuinely subtle, and where most popular treatments stop. The value of the Planes is that they explain mismatches the core numbers cannot: two people with identical Life Paths who nonetheless experience the same event in incompatible ways are usually operating on different planes.

How to calculate

Sort every letter of your full birth name into the four planes — Physical: E, D, M, W. Mental: A, H, J, N, P. Emotional: B, I, O, R, S, T, X, Z. Intuitive: C, F, G, K, L, Q, U, V, Y. Total each plane and compare the weights.
