Vibration (Number Frequency)
The central premise of numerology โ that each number carries a distinct energetic quality, and that anything nameable can be tuned to it.
Vibration is numerology's foundational claim, and everything else in the system is downstream of it. The premise is that each number is not merely a quantity but a quality โ a characteristic frequency โ and that anything which can be reduced to a number therefore carries that quality: a person, a name, a date, a house, a company, a country, a word.
The idea is Pythagorean in origin and was meant literally. Pythagoras discovered that harmonic intervals correspond to simple whole-number ratios of string length โ that the octave is 2:1, the fifth 3:2 โ and drew from this the conclusion that number is the underlying structure of reality rather than a description laid over it. If harmony is number, the reasoning ran, then number is harmony, and the same ratios that govern a plucked string must govern everything else. Numerology is what remains of that inference.
It is worth being clear that "vibration" here is a metaphor that has been literalised, and that the modern usage โ frequencies, energy, resonance โ borrows the vocabulary of physics without its content. The honest defence of numerology does not rest on the physics. It rests on what the numbers do as a symbolic system: a stable, nine-fold vocabulary that gives people a structured way to describe patterns in a life. That is a real function, and it does not require the string to actually be vibrating.
How to calculate
Not a calculation. Vibration is the underlying principle: reduce any name, date or object to its number, and the meaning assigned to that number is held to be its vibration.
